It's absorbed a lot of sweat and i think it's a bit nasty.

I'm going to throw the headgear in the washing machine.

Put the headgear on and get inside a washing machine. Might as well use the extra space in there to get yourself clean while you're at it.

Do NOT wash it in a washing machine. Never. There is a lot of good cleaners, safe to the material and to the dye while very effective.

We have one of those shark hand held steamers at my house, would that be okay on gear? Anybody know?

Imo it would be unwise to use steam on genuine or even synthetic leather.

Well can you recommend something? I know i could take off the laces and wash them separately. But the chin strap i do not know how to go about it.

I was kidding about the washing machine btw.

lol

Ironically I read today some cleaning advices and it seems that a cleaning cloth (NOT of a fancy color, you need some that never bleeds), microfibre foe example and some good soap work perfectly well ever for a high quality painted leather (but in case of leather you need to dry it immediately afterwards). Naturally do not use hot water, goes without saying.

What about the buckle and the chin strap though? Should i just soak it with water and soap?

Also is vaseline bad for the FG-2900s synthetic leather?

Yeah, you can soak the strap.

Vaseline is always fine.

Maybe try Lysol spray or some other antiseptic. Or soak in Lysterine, rinse by dipping in water, then let it dry in the sun?

OMG, NOOOOOOO!

No sun!!!

A good soap, slightly warm water, a cloth. All it needs. It is enough for your body, so it is enough for the gear.

very old thread I know, but can you machine wash or replace the laces on the headgears? Do winning do replacement or is it just case of getting any lace that's the same length?

You can remove the laces and do whatever you want with them. Wash them, replace them, eat them...

Just found out the laces are the same in gloves, headguards and goin protectors. You just need to cut them down to the correct length.
