‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung to undergo eye surgery, targeting summer return

Chan Sung Jung - Korean Zombie Esther Lin, MMA Fighting

“The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung will have to wait until at least the summer to book his next UFC fight after opting to undergo eye surgery in the United States.

According to his manager Jason House when speaking to MMA Fighting on Monday, Jung will have the procedure to deal with an existing issue where the veteran featherweight was experiencing double vision as recently as his fight with Frankie Edgar in his native South Korea.

Jung apparently had conflicting opinions about the need for eye surgery between doctors in South Korea and the United States. Ultimately, he decided to go forward with the operation in the U.S. with doctors in Phoenix, Ariz. performing the surgery. The news of Jung’s surgery was first reported by MMAJunkie.

The procedure isn’t expected to sideline Jung for too long with his anticipated return date to the UFC this summer.

Currently riding a two-fight win streak with victories over Edgar and Renato Moicano, Jung has been pushing for the next shot at reigning featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

The Australian featherweight is also dealing with an injury of his own suffered in his five-round decision victory against former champion Max Holloway that has pushed his return date back to the spring or summer as well.

With Volkanovski still recovering, the UFC hasn’t made any decisions regarding his next opponent when he’s ready to return to action.

Jung would certainly like to earn that opportunity but right now he’s going to get his vision fixed before resuming his career later this year.
