Claressa Shields

Boxing world champion and Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields will make her MMA debut under the Professional Fighters League banner this coming summer. Shields will meet Brittney Elkin live on ESPN2 and ESPN+ at the June 10 PFL event.

Shields signed with the PFL and recently added to her resume with another title inside the boxing ring. The two-time Olympic gold medalist is considered by many to be the greatest female boxer of all-time.

The bout with Elkin will be part of the primetime broadcast for the PFL, which begins the 2021 season later this month from Atlantic City, New Jersey.

“We’re thrilled to announce the highly anticipated PFL debut of the world’s consensus top female pound-for-pound boxer, Claressa Shields,” said PFL President of Fighter Operations, Ray Sefo. “We’ve seen the videos of her training inside the cage and can’t wait to see the showdown between her and Brittney Elkin on June 10.”

Elkin is 3-6 in her MMA career and holds a brown belt in jiu-jitsu. She has competed for Bellator, Sparta Combat League and Fight 2 Win during her career.

In June 2018, Elkin squared off with reigning PFL champion and former Olympic gold medalist in judo, Kayla Harrison. She suffered a first round submission loss that nigt.

Remaining bouts for the June 10 card will be announced shortly.

The PFL has also added the likes of Anthony Pettis, Fabricio Werdum and Rory MacDonald to the active roster, with all set to compete during the upcoming season.
