Callum Hudson-Odoi was on the receiving end of disgusting racial abuse during England's 5-1 thrashing of Montenegro on Monday night.

England full-back Danny Rose was subjected to discriminatory chanting all night and after receiving a late yellow card the chanting was clearly voluble at the Gradski Stadium.

Speaking to BeIN Sports, Hudson-Odoi revealed that he heard monkey chants aimed at his team-mate and at himself during England's Euro 2020 qualifier.

The winger said England had to keep their heads but urged UEFA to act on the abuse

He said: 'We have to play a fair game and enjoy the moment but when you’re hearing stuff like that from the fans it’s not right.

'It’s unacceptable and hopefully UEFA deal with it properly because when I went over there me and Rosey (Danny Rose) heard it… all the monkey stuff.

'We just have to keep our heads, keep a strong mentality and hopefully Rosey’s OK as well and if anything we’ll have a chat and discuss but he’s got a strong mentality.

He added: 'It’s not right at all. I was enjoying the game as well so to hear stuff like that it’s never right but like I said you’ve got to have a strong mentality and we’re still delighted with the win.'

Hudson-Odoi was widely praised for his remarks and his eloquent response to the appalling behaviour displayed in Podogorica.

Former England striker Gary Lineker tweeted: 'Impressive young man. Truly awful that he and his fellow teammates have to put up with this abhorrent racism. @UEFA must act, and strongly.'

Hudson-Odoi was making his first start for his country and performed supremely well in a hostile atmosphere.

England had fallen behind after Marko Vesovic struck in the first half but Michael Keane, Harry Kane, Sterling and a Ross Barkley-double ensured an easy victory for Gareth Southgate's side.

Manager Southgate said after the game that he too had heard the chanting and that England would be reporting the incidents to UEFA.

Southgate said: 'I definitely heard some abuse of Danny Rose when he got booked at the end of the game. There is no doubt in my mind that that happened. We’ll make sure that it’s reported officially, it’s not acceptable.'

Winger Raheem Sterling celebrated his goal and England's fifth of the night by cupping his ears to the crowd in a direct response to the abusers.

Sterling later tweeted: 'Best way to silence the haters (and yeah I mean racists) #2019 #getsomeeducation.'
