Kell Brook dismisses retirement claims and targets Terence Crawford fight

Speculation surrounding the former IBF welterweight champion understandably began to mount after fighting just twice since surgeries on both eye sockets

Kell Brook has rubbished reports he is set to retire.

Speculation had begun to mount over the 33-year-old's position in the sport, but he took to Twitter to reassure fans.

And Brook even targeted a fight with WBO welterweight champion and pound-for-pound contender Terence Crawford.

The former IBF champion last fought in December, earning a points win over Australia's Michael Zerafa in a scrappy contest.

But he is not done yet, and issued a defiant message to those who have doubted him.

"I am not sure where these reports have surfaced but I have not retired," Brook posted. "Me and my team have been trying to secure big fights."

The Sheffield fighter - who has lost twice in the past three years - added: "We went to New York because we want to fight Crawford.

"These are the level of fights that get me excited and I'd only ever want to bow out on a high, putting on an exciting show for my fans who have always shown me incredible support.

"If these big fights can be made then I'd love nothing more than to dance under them bright lights."

Brook dared to be great back in 2016 when he made the leap up to middleweight to take on Gennady Golovkin at the 02.

However, the heavy-handed Ukrainian handed him his first defeat, forcing Brook to undergo surgery on his right eye socket.

And in 2017, Brook tasted defeat again back at welterweight to Errol Spence Jr at Bramall Lane - sending him back under the knife for treatment on his left eye socket.

American Crawford is regarded as one of the world's best fighters at any weight and held all four world titles at super-lightweight before moving up to welterweight in 2018.

The 31-year-old - who is undefeated from 35 fights - beat Britain's Amir Khan convincingly in April.
