‘He will play with no fear’ – Former Manchester United star Paul Parker backs Marcus Rashford to star for England at the World Cup

Former England defender Paul Parker has tipped Manchester United star Marcus Rashford to have a big impact in Russia during the World Cup.

Rashford cut an isolated figure at Wembley on Saturday as Chelsea saw off the challenge of the Red Devils to lift the FA Cup.

With Jose Mourinho opting to spend more time and effort trying to stop Eden Hazard, Rashford became more and more remote as the game went on, before finally being replaced by Romelu Lukaku.

But Parker, who played a key part for the Three Lions in their runs to the semi-finals at the 1990 World Cup in Italy, believes Gareth Southgate can inject some belief back into the 20-year-old.

“You don’t become a bad player overnight, that’s a fact,” Parker told the Weekend Sports Breakfast.

“You don’t become a bad player overnight, but there’s something that’s materialising that’s preparing that to happen.

“I’m looking at Marcus Rashford and that’s happening.

“I’m quite sure when he goes out there for the World Cup, and he gets an opportunity, he will go and grab it and everyone will be going ‘Wow!’

“Because he will be playing with no fear – that’s the difference.”

England kick off their World Cup campaign against Tunisia in Volgograd on Monday, June 18.
