The Butlerian Jihad (23000) (wikipedia.org)

Like Star Wars, the future Dune has Abrahamic, self-righteous, heroic, "chosen one" themes to it. I don't think it's a surprise.

What's interesting about the Butlerian Jihad is that it mirrors some of the Kafkaesque dystopian themes of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Huxley I think was more adept at envisioning Tinder as a hookup culture wasteland and the over-sexualization of children on social media... add social credit and a hop-skip-and-a-jump from that world that hath such people in't!

Perhaps people without social media are now considered "savages"? And how dare anyone pay with untraceable, dirty cash or crypto! /s

They should reprint it as 2300. I don't think AI will need 20+k years to become troublesome.

Or, more in line with the linked aticle, The Butlerian Jihad (13,000)

> As explained in Dune, the Butlerian Jihad is a conflict taking place over 11,000 years in the future (and over 10,000 years before the events of Dune), which results in the total destruction of virtually all forms of "computers, thinking machines, and conscious robots".

I've read all of the Frank Herbert Dune books. I've been meaning to start on the remaining Dune books.

I think the thinking machines will find a way to send a machine back through time to stop the uprising. An Eliminator, so to speak...
