There's no denying that Fortnite is currently the most popular game around as its reach has become more than just another video game and is instead a cultural phenomenon. This success is bringing in loads of money for developer Epic Games but a new report reveals that profits might be higher than even anticipated.

By way of GamesIndustry.biz, a new report on the battle royale genre from the market research firm Superdata has revealed that Fortnite has made over $1 billion -- from in-game purchases alone. Since its launch last year, Fortnite's profits on in-game items has increased every single month culminating with profits reaching $318 million in May alone. From March through May of this year, it seems that Fortnite made somewhere in the neighborhood of $800 million.

With games of Fortnite's size, it's always interesting to wait and see when the fervor surrounding it might finally start to die down. If the last few months have proven anything, though, it doesn't seem like that decline will be anytime soon.
