The Coalition has confirmed that players on Xbox One and PC will be able to play together in more modes when Gears 5 releases later this year.

Speaking to Gamespot  (spotted by XboxAchievements) Multiplayer Director Ryan Cleven confirmed that the new Escape mode – in which three players must plant a bomb in a hive, survive waves of enemies and, as the title suggests, escape – would also support cross play, saying: 'We are happy to confirm that Gears 5 will feature cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 PC for Versus Multiplayer. Cross-platform play also extends across the other Gears 5 modes to provide a great over-the-top three-player experience in Escape, an epic five-player Horde session, or three-player Campaign co-op.'

Campaign, Versus and Horde modes were previously playable cross-platform in Gears 4, but it's great to hear the new modes will also have the option. And for those Xbox One players who are worried about playing ranked against those using a mouse and keyboard, Cleven also confirmed 'For the launch of Gears 5, Xbox players will be able to opt-out of matchmaking against PC players for ranked matches.'

Gears 5 is due for launch September 10 on Xbox One and PC, with a Versus Tech Test taking place this and next weekend.
