Blimey, would you Adam and Eve it? Yep, that’s another week done and dusted, and with it a whole bunch of (hopefully) exciting video game news to digest. Being an EastEnders fan, I know how important catching up on stuff is, so that’s why I’m here to guide you through the biggest gaming stories of the past week before you bugger off down the pub, play some Fortnite, fire up Netflix, or do whatever it is you do on a Friday night. But first, I’ll get the important stuff out of the way…
Oh Bex Fowler, you didn’t, did you? Yep, she did: Martin’s teenage daughter snogged his best mate Kush, and from the reaction on social media, people aren’t happy. It’s a bit dodgy for sure, especially as she was madly in love with Kush’s sadly departed brother, Shakil. I guess she likes to keep it in the family, eh? Then again, this is EastEnders.
Elsewhere, Jon Anderson, the angelic former frontman of Yes, wants a reunion with his ex-bandmates. Having been on the road with Rick Wakeman and Trevor Rabin the past couple of years, Anderson feels the time is right for another ‘union,’ seeing as how the progressive rock outfit celebrated its 50th birthday in 2018. Yes has basically been a revolving door for musicians since the mid-70s, but having Anderson back in the fold would be a great way to wrap things up.
Finally, Danny ‘I’m fxxxing Danny Dyer’ Dyer has spoke about losing his virginity at 14 as part of an appearance on the show ‘Let’s Talk About Sex.’ Fair enough, right? Well, I guess, but not when he was chewing the fat in front of his daughter, who is 11-years-old. Blimey, mate.
A new Sonic the Hedgehog game is in the works
Sonic Team confirmed at SXSW over the weekend that the next mainline Sonic title is currently in development. And that’s it. No name, no details, and certainly no release window were given. The only thing we do know is that fans will have to play the waiting game until more info is released. Still, it’s good to know the Blue Blur is getting a fresh outing, even if it probably won’t be Sonic Mania 2. Let’s just hope he looks a little better than his movie counterpart, eh?
Bethesda confirms E3 2019 plans, Doom Eternal to feature heavily
Sony may be out of the game this E3, but that doesn’t mean the usual suspects are dropping out, too. Bethesda’s back in business this summer, confirming a media briefing for the Los Angeles games show, among which features an extensive look at the upcoming Doom Eternal. There’s no word yet on what else will be shown, but you can expect Wolfenstein: Youngblood to show its face, and probably a surprise or two. We might even get Todd Howard in a cool leather jacket again.
Stadia revealed as Google’s cloud-based gaming platform
Google finally unveiled its dedicated gaming platform during its GDC keynote this week. It’s called Stadia, and comes out in the US and Europe at some point this year. In addition to packing more than double the horsepower of PS4 and Xbox One, Stadia is also capable of cross-platform play and will be supported by Google’s new in-house development studio, Stadia Games and Entertainment, helmed by Jade Raymond. It also won’t allow any old rubbish to be streamed on it, and will be pretty strict when it comes to adult content.
Nindies showcase confirms Cuphead, Cadence of Hyrule for Switch
Nintendo’s latest Indies showcase was an absolute banger. For starters, we’re getting a new Zelda spinoff, Cadence of Hyrule, that crosses over with Crypt of the Necrodancer. Ever fancied seeing Link and Zelda fighting off the forces of darkness using the power of rhythm? Well, now you can. Other than that, Cuphead, the utterly splendid 1930s-flavoured retro shooter originally released on Xbox One, is also coming to the Switch this spring. Brilliant!
Beyond, Detroit, and Heavy Rain confirmed for PC
With Quantic Dream no longer developing games exclusively for PlayStation consoles, the French studio has confirmed that it’s bringing three of its most recent titles – Beyond: Two Souls, Detroit: Become Human, and Heavy Rain – to the PC this year. What’s more, all three games are coming to the Epic Games Store as timed-exclusives. The question still remains, however, as to what David Cage and co are working on next.
Sony announces State of Play broadcast for next week
The House of PlayStation has confirmed it’s taking a leaf out of Ninty’s book with State of Play, a Direct-style broadcast series aimed at dropping fresh news on all things PS4 and PSVR. It’s just as well, as Sony’s skipping E3 this year, so it needed some outlet to reveal its plans going forward. Right now, it’s not known if this will replace the PlayStation Experience or not, so it could just be a complementary effort that stands alongside its usual trade show appearances. Then again, it could be an indication of where Sony is heading for the foreseeable future.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 announced
Remember Tender, the ARG from Paradox Interactive designed to be some kind of dating app for vamps and other blood-lovers? Well, turns out it was teasing something related to Vampire: The Masquerade after all – namely, a sequel to Bloodlines. We’ve only got a CGI teaser so far, but it looks grisly enough, and Paradox has confirmed a 2020 release for the game on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. To be fair, waiting shouldn’t be a problem; the last game came out way back in 2004.
