Next Star Wars Movie Has A Director, Announcement In January--Report

Who's making the next Star Wars movie?

There has been considerable uncertainty in the past few weeks about the future of the Star Wars series on the big screen. No new movie beyond next month's The Rise of Skywalker has been announced, and the recent departure of David Benioff and DB Weiss from the trilogy they were working on was followed by Disney boss Bob Iger stating that the series would soon go "on hiatus." However, it has now been reported that a director has been lined up for the next film.

According the The Hollywood Reporter, producer Kathleen Kennedy has chosen a director to helm the Star Wars movie that currently has a December 2022 release date. This date was initially assigned to Benioff and Weiss's first movie, and despite their exit, it has remained on Disney's schedule. However, THR also states that this won't be the Star Wars movie that Rian Johnson is working on either, so it's currently unknown what it will be.

However, it's exciting to think we might have some positive news about the theatrical future of the Star Wars series in the New Year.

As for The Rise of Skywalker, a bunch of new character posters were released this week. You can check them out here, together with these new images from the movie. We've also published our The Rise of Skywalker review.
