In Polygon’s exclusive preview of Cowboy Bebop, the upcoming live-action adaptation of Shinichirō Watanabe’s seminal anime, showrunner André Nemec not only lauded the original seres’ composer Yoko Kanno, but insisted there was no doing a new version of Bebop without her. And at Netflix’s Tudum fan event on Saturday, the creative team came with proof: the opening credit sequence for the 2021 series, featuring John Cho as Spike, Mustafa Shakir as Jet, and Daniella Pineda as Faye.
Following a toe-tapping behind-the-scenes video and some nearly anime-accurate first-look photos, the credit sequence is the first real taste of what Nemec and his eclectic team have cooked up for the series, which is due out in November. Truly, however the show goes, the promise of a new Kanno soundtrack should prove to be a net positive for fans.
“Anybody who loves the music from Cowboy Bebop is going to love beyond what Yoko has done for us on this show,” Nemec told Polygon in August. “I will hear music pieces come in, we will talk about character and theme, and then when I get those pieces there have been more times than I can remember that I hear something and I’m like … a smile comes to my face.”
Cowboy Bebop premieres on Netflix on Nov. 19.
