A 67-year-old pensioner has been found hacked to death at her home in Jamaica shortly after moving from Britain for her retirement.

Evadney Gayle, who had lived in England for many years, spent years dreaming of returning home and building her dream retirement home in St Toolies, Manchester.

Ms Gayle, whose body was found by her common-law husband, was murdered just three weeks after moving to her dream house in the country of her birth.

Speaking to Jamaican newspaper The Star, Ms Gayle's nephew spoke of the distress felt by the family at her loss.

'This incident has shaken our family,' he said, 'everybody mash up because of the way she died. I don't even sleep from last night.'

There are currently no suspects in the murder investigation, but local police have launched an appeal for witnesses to the crime.

Speaking to the press, Police Superintendent Gary Francis urged members of the public to come forward if they have information about the murder.

Speaking to The Star, local councillor Claudia Morant-Baker said Ms Gayle's neighbourhood had been left shaken by the tragic murder.

'Sunday night when I saw her lying in that pool of blood, I cried. It could have been me, my mother or sister who was taken away from us so brutally,' she said.
