Burgess Park has become a crime hotspot in recent years, with reports of drug-dealing gangs operating in the area as well as people carrying weapons, with police carrying out sweeps.

In 2020, Southwark Council took out a year-long injunction in a bid to stop all-night partying and littering in the park.

The injunction banned amplified music, lighting equipment, marquees, and gatherings of more than 20 people after 9pm.

It also covered other illegal activities such as engaging in sexual activity, carrying a weapon and violent behaviour.

Earlier this year, extra police officers patrolled the park after reports on TikTok that a 'postcode war' between feuding rival gangs could result in 'possible violence'.

The Met said there would be a 'visible policing presence' as it responded to the reports 'circulating on certain social media channels regarding possible violence in the Burgess Park' over the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday.
