Ocasio-Cortez makes startling claim about Miami to push Green New Deal, climate change agenda

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) claimed this week that Miami will cease to exist in a few years due to climate change.

While speaking at a NAACP forum on Wednesday, Ocasio-Cortez sounded the alarm on climate change in order to push her controversial Green New Deal, responding to critics who blast the proposal as not realistic.

"When it comes to climate change, what is not realistic is not responding with a solution on the scale of the crisis — because what's not realistic is Miami not existing in a few years," Ocasio-Cortez said.

"So we need to be realistic about the problem," she added.

The freshman Democrat published the Green New Deal in February, resulting in a barrage of criticism and mockery.

Although Ocasio-Cortez purports the proposal mostly focuses on combatting climate change, her now-former chief of staff Saikat Chakrabarti admitted in July the Green New Deal really isn't about the climate.

"The interesting thing about the Green New Deal is it wasn't originally a climate thing at all," Chakrabarti said during a conversation with reporters. "Do you guys think of it as a climate thing? Because we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing."

The Green New Deal would cost American taxpayers nearly $100 trillion.

Ocasio-Cortez is no stranger to making outrageous climate change claims. She previously claimed the world will end in 12 years if climate change is not sufficiently addressed. She later walked back that claim.
