Metpack and BASF SE have joined forces on a new packaging initiative that will result in home-compostable solutions for consumers to take advantage of. The packaging partnership will see Metpack's paper Ezycompost paired with BASF's 'ecovio 70 PS14H6,' which will enable the container to work well with food applications and also be suited for composting from home. The barrier and the packaging overall is reported to show impressive attributes with the ability to support exposure to liquids, grease, fats and mineral oil as well as water up to 100-degrees Celsius.
Vice President Sales and New Project Development at Metpack Sühan Gürer spoke on the Metpack and BASF SE partnership saying, "With Ezycompost, we can offer the food industry the best of both worlds when it comes to coated paper packaging. It has the same strength as PE-coated paper but with the added benefit that it is certified compostable and creates no persistent microplastics in organic or paper waste streams. Its faster processing and home-compostability is a double advantage compared to coatings made of PLA, which is industrial compostable only. This all enables the food packaging industry to differentiate their products without compromise on performance and quality as well as reach their sustainability targets.”
