Introducing Furlan Marri's 'Red Hunter' Celebrates The Brand's Fourth Anniversary (Live Pics)

The brand's first watch in 36mm, with the rare addition of an "officer's caseback" on a sub $2,000 watch, Furlan Marri honors the historic aesthetics that made them so popular four years ago (and today).

What We Know

Four years ago, Furlan Marri scratched the right itch at the right time with a Kickstarter star of a series with MechaQuartz-powered Tasti Tondi-inspired chronographs at an affordable price. It was the kind of thing that could have just been a Covid-era flash in the pan, but Furlan Marri turned it into a full-fledged brand. Now with mechanical dress watches, affordable flyback chronographs, an upcoming perpetual calendar, and a brand new Disco Volante with vintage touches for a modern era, the brand has a lot of options. Now, to celebrate their fourth anniversary, Furlan Marri is launching something new: the "Red Hunter" Fourth Anniversary model.

Furlan Marri Red Hunter

Measuring a newly-shrunk 36mm diameter with 11.6mm thickness and a 44mm lug-to-lug, the watch features a black lacquer stepped dial, starting low at the edge with a cream printed minute track, higher around the hour markers, and dipping lower again for the center. The Roman numerals aren't just applied at one height across all levels, but are cut down to the lower level in the center. The watch has dauphine hour and minute hands and a bold red central seconds hand (with stop seconds mechanism).

The thickness might be a bit surprising, but that's because of the main (unusual) vintage-inspired addition: a hunter (or officer's) caseback that protects the Swiss La Joux-Perret G100 movement. Just like the dials, Furlan Marri had La Joux-Perret put a bit of extra effort into the finishing of the movement, with an engraved tungsten rotor with rose gold (4N) coating and snailing. The movement also has movement with Geneva stripes, snailing, and blued-steel screws. The outside of the hunter caseback is polished (so you could engrave it if you want), but the inside is engraved to celebrate the brand's anniversary.

The watch comes with two French leather straps (one in black with red stitching and another in beige) for the 20mm lug-width, but for the first time, the brand is launching its own integrated (their term) stainless-steel bracelet designed by founders Andrea Furlan and Hamad Al-Marri. The bracelet has a hidden butterfly clasp with two buttons for release. I wouldn't call it integrated, but the end links nestle nicely into the case.

The watch is available for pre-order from April 23 at 3 PM CET (9am Eastern) until May 4 at 10 PM CET (4pm Eastern) for $1,830.

What We Think

We have a few Furlan Marri owners on staff, but I guess you could call me the resident brand evangelist. That's because I think there's a lot to love about their watches. For the price, the finishing and quality can't be beat. Take a look at the picture of the dial. black lacquer, multi-level, incut indexes. That's way more attention to detail than any $2,000 dial I've ever seen.

Many people won't want a 36mm watch, nor will they see a benefit of the officer's caseback. You usually see that feature on things like the Chopard limited edition we released last year or (more frequently) Patek Philippe models like the ref. 5153J, 5227R, or Rare Handcrafts Perpetual Calendar Retrograde Date ref. 5160. But I like it. It's hard to know every other option on the market, but I can't seem to recall another hunter caseback for this price (aside from my pocket watches that are hunter case by design – where the carry-over comes from).

The metal bracelet has grown on me, but I'd probably wear it more often on a strap. I tend to like simplicity for bracelets, and this has a lot of contrasting surfaces, but the finishing is well done, and the bracelet feels robust. If you were an early supporter of Furlan Marri and believe in what they're doing, this release is for you. For the price, it's a very nice way to celebrate four years on the market and the community that supports them.

With this G100 movement , Rose Gold coated rotor so time and care has gone into it for the customer. Also with opening display gives it a super nice touch. A different Dial possibly white with none roman numerals would be my choice moving forward, but it’s a good looking watch & overall package as stated from the brand under 2k. 👌

If it was a full integrated bracelet it would look a lot like pateks discontinued Neptune watch. I like it.

Love everything except for the size. Hopefully they bring out something bigger.

Yaaaaaas! to everything. Furlan Marri is ahead of the curve. Vintage charm in spades and so confident. The dial is a delight. Beautiful movement and officer's case back gets bonus points. And a killer modern BOR bracelet with a butterfly clasp to boot. 36mm is 2mm than most of my watches, so happy to see this isn't bigger than most of my dive watches.

These guys are killing it. So cool.

I‘m owning a Longines with an officers case back. Especially with a nicely finished movement, this is a wonderfully playful extra. So, if they would come up with a lighter dial, it would enter my wish list.

The Visitor Vale Park Officer (which retailed for around $800) had an officer's back. A second version is in development.

Nice! but this is a 10% tariff or a 31% now? I can't keep up, there is zero stability in this country now. LOL

furlan marri show a lot of attention to the small details. the oversized crown is such a nice touch. imagine if the 6196p had a similarly sized crown, it would’ve totally elevated the watch.

Really great, unique. I just cannot make myself “unsee” the poor ratio of 20mm lugs on sub-38mm pieces. It looks so unbalanced to my eye. 18 or 19mm would’ve been great here, especially with such a small black dial.

So has Furlan Marri finally stopped putting the reference number in weird places on the dial? Looks like it?

It would be even better (and cheaper) with a 39mm case, leather strap, and a regular sapphire case back.

IMO everything else is well-executed, but the officer's caseback is THE reason to get this.

Fair on the uniqueness of the officer’s caseback, but in my case I would rather have a thinner and cheaper version of the watch as I find the dial interesting enough and well executed.

Not bad at all, my principal critique is the use of roman numerals. Why?

I’m with you. I don’t like Romans at all, on any watch.

Beautiful watch and I enjoy the caseback that can be opened and closed. The watch would pair well with a strap.
