Footage shows Novak Djokovic falling to the floor after being struck by a bottle at Italian Open

Novak Djokovic fell to the floor after being struck on the head by a water bottle at the Italian Open.

The Serbian star was making his way off court following his round of 64 victory over Corentin Moutet in Rome.

The world number one was the star attraction at the Italian Open and stopped to sign autographs as he made his way out of the arena.

But while he signed, Djokovic was struck by an object thrown from the crowd, thought to be a water bottle.

Immediately clutching his head, the 36-year-old fell to the floor in pain before promptly being attended to.

The footage was captured by a fan in attendance, who goes by the name @DelMartin0 on X.

The clip has since gone viral with tennis fans concerned for the star's welfare.

After a short time on the floor, Djokovic was escorted off court and out of harm's way.

Djokovic had hoped for a hassle-free day in Rome and seemed on track do exactly that with a 6-3 6-1 win over Moutet.

The 24-time grand slam winner will face Alejandro Tabilo in the round of 32.
