Media Nunes speaks with Anik about Aldana Fight

Right on. I think a lot of people got this wrong. She may not take out Irene in less than a minute, but she will finish her. You can see the excitement in her face. She’s at a great point in her life. Congratulations to Nina and her as their family gets bigger.

But she’ll be ready to go and will put on a show. She’s the Lioness, and ready to hunt. The Greatest Of All Time and nobody else is in the conversation. Great interview.

War Amanda.

This was the fight to make. In the end, we got the right fight.

If they stay on the feet, someone will get a finish.

probs my 2 favorite WMMA fighters of all time, but i hope Irene wins it.

I’m honestly wondering which Nunes we will witness on fight night, the GOAT that was driven by redemption to get the belt back, or the family oriented MMA fighter that seemingly didn’t train seriously for Peña and gassed.
Some of you guys are strange. 14 years and you just pretend she wasn’t fully recovered from Covid or had a knee injury during that camp as well?

I honestly don’t know anymore what the story is with some people. Do you honestly not remember Covid? How do people forget it. The fight was postponed because Amanda had it. I know there are Shevchenko fans that are 100% dishonest. Especially one that never mentions Covid or the headbutt Pena hit Amanda with, but whatever.

But this “which Amanda” shows up is ridiculous. There is only one. And she was not healthy and should not have fought that night.

The upper two UFC women’s weight divisions are dying.
145 is dead. Maintained only to promote Nunes. Literally doesn’t even have a top 15 ranking.
And what happened to 135? Everyone is old with no real exciting young contenders. It used to be a great division and Nunes fought a bunch of good female fighter IN THE PAST. Dying now.

115 and 125 are exciting divisions with lots of great fighters.
Amanda is the queen of dead divisions at this point. Both devoid of worthy challengers.

As far as this fight…. Amanda is getting old. Not a great sign she left ATT and formed her own gym. Financially? Prob good move. For her continued progression as a fighter? Likely downgrade.
But Aldana is 1 year older than her! She’s also good with some power, but nothing special. Can’t say it’s that exciting and I expect Amanda wins.

From a betting perspective, I’ll be looking mostly to fade Nunes going forward, but think at the current price I prob don’t bet although Gun-to-head bet Nunes around -300 or so.
I’ll stay away from this fight unless I can get Aldana for over +400 Or Nunes for -250

What does being a Val fan have to do with an opinion on what happened with Amanda that night? You yourself are super defensive about Nunes because you’re admittedly a big fan and she’s your favorite fighter which I saw you post in a thread before. If anything, you’re biased. And you take any attack on Nunes to certainly be someone else being biased.

We’ve had this debate in multiple threads. But let me give it a try.

I’m not really much of a fan in sports in general. I’m a professional gambler. I’m basically a fan of who I bet and my opinion. So truth is, I’m actually pretty unbiased here. If I was gonna list some of my preferred fighters to listen to in interviews, Val isn’t in one of them. 3 off the top: Whitaker, Khabib, Benny.

Where is this going? If someone is being objective, Val won the 2nd fight vs Nunes. It was a close fight, but the decision was maybe not a robbery, but a bad one. Weasel has a great breakdown of it. The average scorecard on MMA decision was 71% - 26, so almost 3-1, in favor of Val. More media scorecards were for her. I’ve rewatched the fight 3 times or so (I didn’t bet on it or watch it at the time it happened) - and each time scored it for Val.

sure everyone had their opinion. Some people think the earth is flat. They are just idiots. You can think Nunes won that fight, but you’re sort of a bad judge if so.

so why do I say this?
That result drastically changes the narrative around them. Nunes went on to be UFC titled women’s GOAT. Val, not so much.
If the result was accurate, their careers would have played out differently.
It also doesn’t mean Val is better. After all Nunes won the first decision. So technically they are 1-1.

and all that is besides the point that obviously Val’s proper weight class is 125 - where she dominated and never once missed weight. Nunes could never realistically make 125. Point is, Nunes is significantly bigger and has a weight advantage. Which matters. If you were going to match them in a P4P style rating? Well then you’d have to pick Val, 100%. But p4p isn’t how fighting really works.

Both are amazing fighters. They’ve both had incredible careers. That fight really was a lucky sliding doors moment for Nunes. But in the end it got Val to drop to her best weight class.
Both are aging now and their best years are behind them. More clearly already for Val I’d say, but I expect it to become clear for Nunes soon enough.

Nunes got stopped by Peña. There’s no room for interpretation in that result. Fighters regularly come in to fights with injuries or problems. Nunes had an off night. She dominated the rematch and probably dominates the rubber match. But what happened happened, and while yah Nunes probably has excuses - acting like you need to be a Val fan to take something away from Nunes for that loss is confusing. You are just irrational about all things Nunes. And I certainly don’t expect this post to change your mind - it’s for everyone else.

she has always had cardio issues, she is a big woman, 9 times out of 10 will always be the bigger fighter in that cage and cardio has never been her strength, however, due to her striking ability and size, its hard to take her down, and hard to push the pace on her which helps her to control the pace of the fight and not gas too fast, we seen her slow down in the later rounds, but usually she is up big by then and her opponents are desperate, she is one of the best WMMA fighters for a reason, but i dont think the Pena fight was some outlier, pushing the pace on Nunes has always been the right strategy, its just easier said than done.

I'm still waiting to see the family oriented MMA fighter that is driven to get the belt back that she already has haha

I’m picking Aldana I just feel like an upset is coming. Idk it just feels to me like Amanda might be exiting her prime

It’s fair to give the fight to Nunes as well.

That’s 10 for Amanda, 10 for Val, and 2 a draw.

The judges had a mixed bag as well, from rounds right down to the winner. In fact, round 1 is the only round all 3 agreed on, and it was Amanda’s. Furthermore, at least one judge gave her the nod in EVERY round.

It’s not a stretch at all to score that fight either way, genuinely.

I agree with your assessment of the Pena fight though. Not the first time Amanda faced adversity, gassed, and got her ass kicked.

you realize Aldana is older than Nunes? I agree about exiting prime, but this isn't the fight likely to go against Amanda. Have to wait for a younger up-and-coming contender.
