I'm not finding any other references to the Mayor being locked out. But he has said he's boycotting City Council meetings.
Camilla is a small town in south Georgia; it would not surprise me to see institutionalized racism and discrimination.

Not sure exactly what's going here, but a couple things I came across.

"City Manager Bennett Adams said that no previous mayor had keys."

Looks like half the city council is black, so at least some of them must be in agreement.

Mayor is boycotting city meetings.

Besides the racial issues the mayor is bringing up, seems like there's a strong component of common mayor vs council power struggle.

Wait. So, a white woman affiliated with conservative media makes a dubious claim about sexual harassment and the world erupts and a senator resigns. A black dude in Georgia makes a claim about racism and we're all "sounds like bullshiat."

Just want to make sure I've got that straight.

That said, like other recent claims, I sure *hope* it's bullshiat, or I'm gonna have to set my watch back a few centuries.

I could see the stupid law of a white person not being able to be buried next to a black person maybe existing.  Lots of municipalities have stupid laws on the books that are leftovers and aren't ever enforced.  Nobody bothered to change the law.

/but yeah 90% of this story sounds like bs

the city's policies, which include Blacks not being allowed to be buried next to Whites, all White school age children in the city go to an all-White private school, and there are no African-American police officers just to name a few.

What the.... Are they talking about in 1952 or now?

I've visited Camilla. Aside from a Hardee's, there's absolutely nothing there. It's even more of a backwater than Charleston, Mississippi, Brownsboro, Texas or Philipsburg, Montana (where you can at least ski).

Northerner-like typing detected.

The quote "Down South white folks don't care how close I get as long as I don't get too big. Up North white folks don't care how big I get as long as I don't get too close" isn't as true now, but it's still a thing.

The fact that half the council is black points more to this being about a power-struggle than racism, but hey, racism is a nice way to rally troops.

While the story is short on facts and details.  Is it possible that what the mayor is referring to is city laws that have never been removed?  Not that they are particularly enforced but still exist on paper?

So this is dated January 19, 2016:

"Tonight, citizens of Camilla will attend a regularly scheduled  city council  meeting where they will confront city council members who  boycotted last Thursday's  special meeting that was called to address citizens' concerns, including the city manager's refusal to provide me, as the new Mayor, with keys to city hall and office furniture."

Jennings, MO, which is right outside of St. Louis, has had an all-white government with majority black population for a long time and up until recently. The police force was plenty white too. So a majority white government in a majority black town is believable to me.

It seems the only biatch the Mayor really has is desegregation of the lical cemetery. In the city charter online there's nothing to suggest most of what he's claiming and the city itself is listed as an official City of Ethics. http://www.cbs46.com/story/37080879/mayor-of-georgia-town-demands-cemetery-be-desegregated

With a 3mil tax lien, maybe the city council is worried he's pawn the furniture.
