t doesn't look to me like she yanked anything - she just wobbled it back and forth a bit and leveraged it out.  Probably, the concrete around it was already lose.

Since there was a bend in it, I assume someone had ran into it and shattered the concrete at the base

it's still amusing

Yeah, I'm not too impressed with the install there. I've put those things in here in the states, and we buried it 2 feet deep with concrete below that, filling it with more concrete to the top. Nobody is pulling that motherfarker out of the ground.

Aren't some of them designed to be removed for emergency vehicles? I've seen some that automatically sink into the ground, but such a mechanism would obviously be more expensive than simply making them removable at the base.

Yeah, the auto ones are more for access to government buildings, where they previously would have had a gate. If these are that easy to remove, they aren't very effective...

I've seen them removable for maintenance vehicles more than emergency. And more where they don't want you driving as opposed to actual defense against a vehicle. Any college campus is rife with this type.

Yeah I saw several of those get ripped out by our boat and 2 coast guard cutters during Hurricane Jeanne. Both 20 ton iron caps and the concrete pile driven 140ft deep, got pulled over and let go. Getting a call over VHF that the ships have come free and one nearly capsized in the channel is scary as fark. We tried to go out but it was so crazy that we returned back to our bunker.

Turns out it was a tornado, Cutter read 183 mph as it was rolled onto it's side and pinned against the seawall for 10 minutes or so. It self righted and recovered. We were able to tie it back down after an hour of hell passed over.

Those are sturdy ones meant to normally block off traffic completely from a street or so, in many cases built to withstand a twenty ton truck smashing into it at high speed. The one in the article looks like a comparatively very puny one only meant to ensure that the sidewalk isn't treated like a parking space.

There are also sturdy one which plug into a socket embedded in the ground and can easily be removed to a allow a vehicle to pass. Often used to make a gap possible in a row of fixed bollards. I presume it was one of these she took.

My theory:  Girl's Night Out, Scavenger Hunt or a Batchelorette party is behind this crime.

I call this the Abraham Lincoln Theory.

/ "Anything is a dildo if you are brave enough".

// I debated whether to explain this, as it would spoil the joke, but then I remembered the First Law of Jokes:  assume complete ignorance and idiocy in at least some members of your audience. Adjust jokes accordingly so as to play the puking peasants in the pit.
