Putin knows the only way for him to have a say in American politics is through corruption of American public officials. In an actual open war the US would wipe the floor with the Russian military. Putin only has a poorly equipped small military.

This is just theater to create a perceived distance between Russia and the US.   There is none of course.   Russia is again leaving Syria to burn, having used Syrian refugees to steer the US election and Brexit.

"One Su-25 flew close enough to an F-22A that it had to aggressively maneuver to avoid a midair collision," he said, adding that "during the incident, a Russian Su-35 also flew across the river and was shadowed closely by one of the F-22As."

None of this matters.

The real world is chugging along just fine under President Clinton, and here in the Bizarro Universe, a violent military altercation between America and Russia is no more likely to lead to a war than it is to a peace treaty or a the planet transmogrifying into a giant six-dimensional Gumby.

Not just the Trumpers. My father is a moderate Republican and not at all crazy - and despises Trump - but that was his fear with Hillary Clinton. He remains certain that WWIII was avoided by Hillary losing, even if Trump is the price we now pay.

The thing is, we'll never really know.

Yeah, except I think the F-35 is also really what we hear it is. Red Flag 17-1 was almost as devastating as the F-22's first Red Flag.

Interesting. I can remember, back in the day when both wars in the sandbox were in full swing, we sent care packages to the Marines based on lists they provided, including socks.
I guess a $650B defense budget only goes so far.

The military doesn't buy you your socks. You buy them at the exchange or local mall, but there's no exchange or malls in the middle of the desert. They will on occasion buy mandatory clothing items for you to wear (usually safety related) but I've never even seen socks on that list. Steel toed boots? Sure. If you have a job that required them. Soft soled sneakers? Again yes, if you're on a submarine where clomping around might lead to detection. But regular clothing items is what a uniform allowance is for.
