I used to have a thing against pit bulls, then ended up finding a lab/pitt puppy at work. 

Most loving and loyal dog I've ever met. But no toy survives long.

Strong as a farking mule. He jumped my 6 foot fence when we went to the store so I put up anti- coyote/bobcat/racoon rollers. If he tried to jump the roller would spin and make him fall. We tested it, he tried to go over, he fell, he learned his lesson. 

Until he sees a neighbor's little dog run up to my wife outside the fence. Somehow he beat the rollers and came to her defense (there was no threat). Now he has an electric fence...

The reasons they use GSD is more cultural and training. The Belgian malinois was a breed going out of style until the GWOT where they needed a more heat resilient dog than a GSD. 

No reason not to use a pibble. People use them for hog hunting and can be trained to climb trees. 
Not as food driven as labs though as far as detection dogs go.

Are you against German Shepards, Dobermans, and Rottweilers too? Those breeds had the "OMG! These dogs are uncontrollable and EVIL" spot before pit bulls did. Dobermans had the spot when Spuds McKensie (a pit bull) was a beer commercial star. It's a cycle, like superfoods, diet trends, and which generation is killing America.
