That's a very short article, One "expert" providing his thoughts. A subject that important deserves a lot more analysis and expert commentary.

Oh this is green now. I'll just wait.

An actual Civil War in America would be a farking disaster. Starvation and disease would probably kill more than the war itself. A lot of people would leave for Canada, Mexico, possibly Europe. Probably 1/3 of the country would die or never return. Nukes would eventually get into the wrong hands and be used. There would be genocidal atrocities committed on both sides. The country, divided as it is, would pit high pop. city states against rural areas, so we're talking block to block fighting in city warzones - basically it would look like Syria, only on a much larger scale.

There's a good chance the world would have to come in and do something about it, but who is to say what that would be.

It's super unlikely, but for the love of God, let's hope it doesn't ever come to that.

It's dumb to put Florida as confederate. A) It went to Obama twice and B) just because the Democratic party is a disaster in the state doesn't mean that when the killing starts, the racist assholes won't be vastly outnumbered (with many too old to fight).

Based on his experience in civil wars on three continents, Mines cited five conditions that support his prediction: entrenched national polarization, with no obvious meeting place for resolution; increasingly divisive press coverage and information flows; weakened institutions, notably Congress and the judiciary; a sellout or abandonment of responsibility by political leadership; and the legitimization of violence as the "in" way to either conduct discourse or solve disputes.

What world is that ? Canada will be lucky if they can hold their own border if the fighting spreads to the northern states. And they WILL militarize the border in a big damn hurry because the US refugees will easily swamp Canada. Europe including what would be left of NATO without the US simply doesn't have the away game capability to cross the Atlantic even into a friendly country like Canada. Russia and China for all their dreams of a Red Dawn can't pull that off either. Even at the height of the Cold War era the Soviets never had the sea or airlift capability to invade the US. Since then their military has only aged like a fine milk.

The world will sit on its hands and say "oh, look at the terrible war and disease and famine happening over there. Someone(else of course) should do something" no differently than they do now or any time in the last 70 years. A good sized US civil war will tank our economy worse than the housing bubble and the rest of the world's economy will tank right along with it.

Actually what is more likely is that a US war destablizes the rest of the world - that means China takes over large swaths of Southeast Asia (say goodbye to Taiwan) and might try to start a war with India, the Koreans might go at it. Iran would probably rekindle fighting, Israel would be attacked and defend itself with nukes. Russia invades Europe or at least tries to take back former Soviet Republics. Afghanistan has a civil war.

Pretty much the end of civilization.

Until winter hits. Anyone without proper shelter will quickly die. That will be on both sides of the border.

It seems to me like a civil war is unlikely unless two "sides" start paying troops. Presuming one side is the national guard and eventually the US army, who's the other side paying troops? Is some PAC going to fund an army?

I know there's probably hundreds across the country willing to volunteer for over a month, but that's more of an insurgency IMO and even those need successful financial and materiel logistics to keep going.

Uhh, how much of that economy is exported outside the US?  If most of their sales and income arrive from the rest of the US, they're going to be quite boned if a civil war starts up.

2017-08-16 5:28:22 PM
What we need right now is a horribly devastating hurricane/tropical storm season to wake up Johnny Rebel to the fact that he is in fact quite boned without the help of the entire nation. You don't go shouting the n-word at National Guard members handing you a warm, dry blanket and a hot meal, IMHO.

So what would that do to my property value, do you think?

2017-08-16 5:29:34 PM
Texas had a 9% gap to becoming a blue state. If anything there would be a mini Civil war within Texas itself I think.  You would actually be surprised how many democrats reside inside Texas.

The days of honorable and chivalrous combat are over (not that they ever really existed in the first place). So CW II would have more in common with the Bosnian War than it would CW I.

Not so much the end of civilization as the end of the current Anglo-American Order. Eventually, the dust would settle. America would be sundered like the Roman Empire. China and India would come to their senses and China would set about building up their new possessions. Europe would get their shiat together and fend off Russia. There's a pretty good chance that Africa could finally rise from the ashes.

Well you can't pay someone with hotel suites, which make up a majority of his assets according to Forbes. He's supposed to have $270M in "cash and personal assets" as of Feb. 2017.

It won't be Civil War 2.  There are examples of what it will look like all over the world, if you look in the right places.

I've seen more effort put into the 4chan boards /tg/ and the RPG RIFTS. State lines would almost HAVE to be redrawn. People will identify closer with the giant metro area they are closest to than arbitrary lins drawn in the 1800s. Especially if you think water would be an issue,  which you should.

If there is a new Civil War, those of us in Colorado are in trouble. We're surrounded by a sea of red derp. Wyoming, Kansas, Utah, Nebraska, and Oklahoma will all go Confederate. Arizona might be tossup. Our only blue ally is New Mexico, and let's be honest here, if you're counting on New Mexico to save you, you're screwed.
