How will they manage with only a 330% profit margin on those? I didn't think fast food do the whole "loss leader" thing.

$0.67 Canadian?

What's that, like ten cents USD?

Was gonna say, I feel like the plain ones were still under a dollar as recently as 2000ish, At some point I moved up to the "grown-up" burgers and never looked back, but I have no idea what they go for now.

I'll have to check again. I did watch some of the credits where they explained what happened to people afterwards. But I can't think of what you're referring to.

$0.53 US.  Looks like the nearest McDonald's Canada is 22 hour drive.  Someone should have told me about this yesterday.  Free National Parks all year, and almost free hamburgers today.  What a country!

From what I understand, McDonald's Canada is doing very well, better than their US counterparts by most metrics.
I like the self order kiosks they put in a few of our restaurants. I can punch in what I want without a 14 year old screwing it up, which was like every time.

I remember back in like '98 or '99 when they had these radio commercials where a guy who was supposed to be like Nostradamus was talking about 29-cent hurmbaggers and 39-cent cheesebaggers. It was funny. And I ate a lot of those cheap-ass cheesebaggers.

Reporting here from the front lines.  This was shortly after 11am at a time when there is usually no line.  There was a maximum of 3 burgers per visit and regular price on these burgers is $1.49.  So people were standing in a 100+ person slow-moving lineup to save a maximum of $2.46.

Yeah, but the 14 year olds are the ones cooking and packing up the meal, so while your chances are better, your still pretty much screwed.

Well at least it eliminates the step of English comprehension and punching buttons into a computer. That part is hard for 14 year olds.

Of course they were.  Canadians are the cheapest bastages on the planet.   As a waiter, If you do get a tip its usually only 10%

They could sell $1.00 double cheesburgers all day for years.  Then they decided that  two slices of 'cheezefud' was too much and created the "McDouble" that was missing one, also $1.00.  Last I heard, only some stores will still sell you two for $2.00.

They aren't losing money on $0.68 hamburgers.  Especially if running at capacity.  Long lines mean profits.

Wait, I thought it was in the early 80's?

The first four were consumed rather quickly, the second four were more normally paced.

The last four, my dad was laughing at me...

McDonald's food is so terrible that they've become only the most successful restaurant chain in all of human history. Of course, their offerings are far too childish and pedestrian for a person of my superior and exquisitely refined tastes. I only eat hamburgers from a local burger joint that I'm sure you've never heard of. They only have one table and refuse to serve more than 3 customers per day. You have to make reservations at least 15 years in advance. Only burger on the planet worth eating, and anyone who says otherwise is an uncivilized brute who would probably eat rat if someone coated it in batter and fried it in lard.

I remember once as a kid in the 80s. They did some promo like this, maybe .29 hamburgers and .39 cheeseburgers or something like that. My mom came home with a sack of 30 and told us to help ourselves. For someone working two jobs and dealing with 3 young boys, that little reprieve from dinner was worth the $15 or so. And we were stoked for McDonalds without even asking for it.
