(Fark)   What ad-blocker do you run on your phone? I need some halp, as I'm old, and have a galaxy 5, and could use your advice as well as a short tutorial on how to install it. Thanks   (fark.com) divider line

brave browser from a bunch of firefox developers.
built-in ad and tracker blocking. not as stable as say, chrome, but it works pretty well.

I use brave, as mentioned above, on an S4 Mini. Mr. Mutts likes Opera Mini, which is designed to reduce your data usage. It actually renders pages on its servers and then sends you the cut down version. I don't think either of us did anything fancy to set them up. Just download from the play store app and try it out.

Another Opera mini fan, here. I think the ad blocker is on by default. If not it's under settings data usage, or something similar

According to the article I just read, Brave replaces existing ads with their clients' ads but with the tracking removed. Is that no longer the case?

Get Firefox from Play store, click on three dots top right corner, tools, add-ons, browse all add-ons, select block ads, first entry is ublock origins, select it. If you want a bit more anti-tracking search for privacy badger from EFF.

I use Weblock for I phone

My only complaint that it doesn't whitelist easily enough.

However you can do big swaths of blocking from known spamming country

Sometimes it affects legitimate sites That have web ads in their videos.

I use adblock browser. It has some quirks but (beyond blocking many ads) it kills whatever infinite loops are running on some sites that make my phone slow to a halt. Installation on Android is pretty painless: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.adblockplus.browser&hl=en

I have absolutely no pop-up ads as I don't typically use the browser on my phone. I prefer my porn on a larger screen. And I'm old with middling vision. Viewing web content on my mobile is torture.

Thanks. Been looking for a replacement for Dolphin. All Android browsers suck; just trying to find the least sucky one.

I use https://adguard.com/en/welcome.html which I have purchased a subscription either $20 (USD) a year or $60 (USD) for a lifetime, and it blocks all ads from the web and a good chunk of the app ads as well.

There are multiple content blockers for iOS, including a version of AdBlock Plus. I use AdBlock Fast. It was free and works well, and is configurable.

My telephone ad-blocker is called "rotary dial".

Just kidding. I stopped using that phone ages ago and it is in the bottom of my linen closet somewhere. I was Luddite enough to give up my rotary dial phone when about 98% of the population had touch tone phones. I only got a touch tone phone because you could not use employment or government services without a touch tone. If I had no need for either of those things, I might be using a candlestick phone still or one that cranks up.

Cranks are a good thing if you don't exercise regularly or have reliable electricity and phone service. I think the world needs more cranks. The electrical kind, not the human kind, though.

Pi-hole. Blocks ads on every device, including smarty phones connected through WiFi, attached anywhere on your home network. One junker laptop or PC runs it, and there's nothing to install on any browsers, phones, smarty TV browsers, Roku boxes, etc. It works for any and all network-connected devices...and even blocks ads for guest devices if they connect to the Internet through your network.

I refuse to switch to anything other than Firefox on all my computers because it works so damn well with adblock plus. It even blocks the ads when streaming from comedy central online, which is amazing to behold as they are so damn intrusive otherwise.

Although my entire family thinks I'm crazy for sticking with FF. And I'm well aware of the ram issues, but why even have 16 GB if I'm not gonna use it?

I have used Adfree for Android for years with great success.
The last two versions of Android require some fiddling with simlinking a directory somewhere in rootspace that I haven't taken the time to figure out how to do, so I'm flooded with ads. :-/
Lots more info available at xda.

I use Dolphin's Browsers.. the lite one doesn't store anything, and doesn't load about 80% of things typically so it's never at issue.  Biggest thing to do is in the settings, make sure your secured browser is set as the default, not just in system - but any app settings that can call it too... having locked down browsers is great, but when your facebook app wants to use the built in app for every link - you're not securing anything.

I also tend to disable browsers I don't use so they don't auto-update constantly and can't be called by apps.
