detailed by delicate drapes of chains, the axolight ‘alysoid’ is a collection of suspension lamps that configure a jewel-like constellation with an intriguing interplay between air, light and structure. created by japanese designer ryosuke fukusada, the light’s design and name, ‘alysoid’, sources influence from the fields of geometry and architecture. also known as ‘catenary’ or ‘catenary arch’, ‘alysoid’ is the curve formed by a flexible chain suspended from its endpoints. this contour notably features in many of spanish architect antoni gaudi’s most famous works, and was also used in the kintai bridge, design by kuroemon kodama in 1673.

mastering the same stirring technique, ryosuke fukusada created the axolight ‘alysoid’ by suspending a chain from two sides of the installation. the result forms a pure and natural shape, as well as builds upon its grandeur and awing level of beauty. the chains themselves are made of small spheres, which are seen more typically in fashion and jewelry design. when the light touches the hanging bracelets, a charming atmosphere is evoked through an ocean of ever-changing and moving glimmers. a volume of air and light fills the space inside the suspension, enabling people to view through the installation and help ensure the design fully integrates within the interior.

the ‘alysoid’ light is crafted from an aluminum structure, available in anthracite grey, with a high performance LED at its heart. as well as a choice of chains in either a glossy black nickel or natural brass finish, the lighting composition is made of four different models: small, medium or two large versions (34.5 cm diameter and 54 cm height; 43 cm diameter and 80 cm height; and 51.5 cm diameter and 100 cm or 170 cm heights). the design can be used as stand alone features or can be arranged as part of a large composition of different shapes, function and light.

the italian lighting manufacturer axolight presented the ‘alysoid’ light at the euroluce exhibition at salone del mobile 2017, along with a new brand identity and more light installations.
