Every day of every month at GQ, we give you advice on What to Wear Today. This month we're taking on the tricky business of getting your office style right for the summer, when it's hot as hell outside, yet freezing inside, and you've got social events lined up right after work every night of the week. Up today: The basic bro outfit that happens to look excellent in a variety of situations.

There are times in life when you want to experiment with your style, and then there are times when it's all about embracing your inner basic bro in the name of looking respectable around people who don't "get" why a grown man would ever wear a dress shirt with track pants. This includes, but is not limited to, summer weekends at your in-laws beach house, your boss's annual BBQ, and anything involving a yacht or a lobster bake. In those situations you want to reach for the tried-and-true summer staples that you know you'll look great in. A striped T-shirt or sweater and a pair of easy cotton pants, whether cargos or chinos, is a great place to start. Throw on a pair of suede desert boots and some sort of bright-color accessory and you're in JFK territory. Just look at how handsome Derrick Rose looks, above, for proof that these staples come together in a great way. Granted the man is a professional athlete with the muscle definition to prove it, but this outfit would look highly decent on any man.

Just do us one favor and stick with slimmer cuts when it comes to the pants and shirt. These easy, relaxed fabrics have enough chill as it is; no need to go full pajama party on everyone. Give it until Labor Day weekend at least.
