He had some fights the UFC and Pride Fighting Championships and Rings.
Had some Wins over some Big names back in the day Tra Telligman Kevin Randleman
Dan Bobish Paul Varelans Ben Rothwell
.

Carlos for the time was an exceptionally well rounded fighter. He was a taller, lighter HW that moved well with excellent Muay Thai...Some great wins and his losses are nothing to be ashamed of.

yep.

I remember him being pretty good actually...

...even if he got a spot on every Gilbert Yvel highlight videos...

His fight with Dave Bennetau (or something) in the early UFCs was really really good to watch!

Yup thats like the only fight i really remember of his though except i think against igor which wasnt good for him. Could be mixing him up there tho

He was pretty good for his time and all guys from that era deserve extra points for heading into the unknown. In the early vale-tudo days you had no idea what would happen in the ring and there was legit intrigue whether someone would get badly hurt or literally die in a fight.

Today he is a really humble, laid back color commentator and by far the most knowledgeable among the crew of stooges of Canal Combate broadcasting team.

I remember he was KO'd by Yvel twice in less than 2 minutes.

Been a long time since I watched it. The one in the UFC was a good fight though. Frankly he was just a big guy with decent skills. Nothing was really that special about him at all.

Pb was that he didnt know how to use his crazy range, was a legit threat on the ground thanks to his BJJ...

Beneteau/Barretto was one of the most even fights of that time period.

he was better then his record suggests that is for sure.

he does have some poor losses on his record tho with Beneteau being one of them. should he have won that fight i think the ufc would have given him higher profile fights. who knows how big a name he would have been then.

His highest ranking on Fight matrix is #9 HW for July 1997.

"4. Carlão Barreto (Brazil) - Gave Vovchanchin a tough go"

The truth is... Barreto opted for a pretty defensive strategy against Igor...

Not that impressive, given his physical edge...

They are calculated by computer 15 years later.

One of the reasons I love it so, you can get rankings of any time period using the same methodology. They all seem to agree though, Barreto was a top dog in his day.
