Hey guys, I'm looking for some growler advice from the beer drinkers on here.

The situation I have is this - my favourite brewery is located about 5 1/2 hours away from me. They don't bottle or can, you have to either go there and get a keg or a growler fill, or find a restaurant that serves it.

I have a friend that will be driving through that area fairly regularly from now on. My plan is to give him a growler, and he can get it filled for me on the way home. But a glass growler will get warm quickly, so I started looking at insulated ones and my god there's a lot of choices.

I found these 3:
shinevessels.com/collections/all/products/wander-and-rumble-bright-white?variant=979347763
https://www.mec.ca/en/product/5038-686/Craft-Growler
https://www.hydroflask.com/64-oz-growler#92=51

The Hydro flask and Innate are both double insulated, and the Shine is single insulated. From my understanding, the Shine will warm up quicker around 6 hours, but I can get it in the fridge and cool it back down. The other two, since they are double insulated, will stay cold longer, up to 24 hours, but I won't be able to put it in the fridge to cool down. So with all that in mind, which one am I better off with?

Sorry for the long winded post, but beer drinking is serious business, and I need help!

I use the cheap growlers at total wine or bevmo but I usually drink the beer a week after I buy it. I wish every brewery had "crowlers" I once drank a crowler from king harbor brewing here in torrance,ca and it was still fresh 3 weeks later.

As an update, I ended up going for the Shine Vessels. I like that I can put it back in the fridge. I feel like this is going to be the start of something expensive though, as I feel like I want to get the Hydro Flask in the 32 ounce to put in my back pack for hikes..

I thought this was about death metal vocalist's who drink beer

The beer getting warm doesn't really matter. Pop it in your fridge, and it'll be fine. What you really want to be wary about is light effecting it. If you get something insulated, you don't have to worry about it. Even if you get a glass one, just try to keep it away from sunlight and bright lights like a mogwai.

Kewl. But on topic, yeah, it's alright if you growl sometimes when you drink beer. I mainly only do it if something frustrating happens or if someone comes near my territory in the bar.

My fave brewery sells steel insulated growlers at 50 a pop. Probably one of the better options if your buddy doesn't have a cooler or something to keep the glass one out of the sunlight.

Why not put your glass growler in a cooler with some ice?

I have a SS Hydroflask growler. I can't comment on the warming up thing because I live 10 minutes away from like 6 different breweries but I like the growler and it's worked well for me.

Don't the growlers have to be carried in the trunk to pass open container laws?

why cant u put a double insulated in the fridge? it will cool down, just very slowly, but since the amount it needs to cool will be proptionate to the amount it warms, and the double insulated will warm less, its fine. single wall insulation is the same thing; it will take time to cool in the fridge than something non-insulated.

Buy a cooler
put growler(s) in cooler to keep cold.
get drunk
profit

You should still be fine if the beer gets warm, just makes sure its sealed up tightly. A place by me wraps the top with electrical tape after closing the growlers. If you're still worried, throw it in a cooler and it'll def be good for the ride

How does a growler manage to keep beer fresh as opposed to just bottling it?

there are many types of growlers some better than other but your standard cheap 4-5 dollar glass bottle growler is basically a larger version of a regular bottle with a screw top that has been taped.

it's purpose is to allow you to take 32oz-64oz of a rare or non bottled on tap beer home with you from the brewery it might only last 2-3 weeks max before it goes flat.

This is why I am a fan of the "crowler" which is a 32 oz can filled with the breweries beer on site using a canning machine this can last up to 2 months or more maybe, I opened a 3 week old crowler and the beer was like brand new.
