How many times have we...
  1. been hit with a terrorist attack on our soil from one of those airports, or
  2. lost an American commercial jet, or
  3. suffered American casualties, or
  4. saw a plot to execute one of the above plans foiled?

I am quite certain that the threat is from AQAP based in Yemen.

Probably never!

I'm guessing this will either keep that stat the same or fuel looneys to change it. Your pick.

Boxcutters are still good to go though

Why can you use a smart phone? What is the basis - that there would be a bomb hidden in the electronics? Because anything you could do from a laptop you could do from a smartphone otherwise.

US carriers not affected.

A cynic would say this is a way to punish ME airlines.

After all, the electronic devises are not banned. Rather, they must now go in the cargo hold.

When your lithium battery burns, it will do so in the cargo area, rather than the cabin (where it can be extinguished).

Seems like a way to convince business travelers that have to complete work on the plane to find a new airline.

I wonder how many business conferences are going to be held outside the us now...

Thread is light on details. Can they fly with a laptop checked in with your luggage, and just can't bring it into the cabin of the plane? Or can you not even put a laptop in your luggage?

I don't at all find it unreasonable that you would have to check a laptop AND cell phone along with shipping the laptop battery separately when flying from those places. Morocco, SA and UAE have produced people who have committed acts here or against us and our allies.

Next time TS how about you provide a news link?

or how about anything to inconvenience Arabs is a good thing?

Do you work for govt? . Do you think every plot foiled, you are made aware of? Serious question.

UAE has a pre-clearance component to their airports that is run by US Customs and Border Protection. It is the same security standards as the US and is manned by US officers.

When you arrive in the US, you arrive at the domestic terminal.

Same security standards as LAX.

Would laptops be allowed from LAX to Chicago?

If someone is flying from SA, UAE or Morocco and they arrive in the US before their final destination, then the rule of "no laptop in cabin and battery removed in cargo" should still apply until you reach your final destination.

I would apply this to all airlines personally flying from one of those countries to the US. Sorry it inconveniences people, including Americans and Westerners in general, but those are the dangers. SA, UAE and Morocco should do a better job of not creating nutters who attack the west.

My only complaint with this is that ALL carriers should be subject to the rules (if not already, maybe they are and I don't know).

people are questioning why american airlines arent subject to it. the article seems to say that american airlines never fly directly from those countries

at least thats what i think it says, its poorly worded
