Alright you miserable fucks, I am here to blow some sunshine up your asses.
1) Extreme population growth has slowed down tremendously. 50 years ago, the average fertility rate was 5 children per woman. Today it is 2.5. The importance of this cannot be overstated.
2) The global life expectancy is now 70!
3) In 1800, nearly 90% of the population was illiterate. Today, over 85% of the people in the world can read in their native language and an incredible number are literate in more than one language.
4) The number of people in extreme poverty (less than $1 per day) has been halved since 1980-- 2 billion to 1 billion.
5) The internet has made knowledge universal. Really, again, no way to overstate the importance of this.
So when you grouches bemoan the "evils of globalization," remember that there have been a lot of benefits, too.
