Alright you miserable fucks, I am here to blow some sunshine up your asses.

1) Extreme population growth has slowed down tremendously. 50 years ago, the average fertility rate was 5 children per woman. Today it is 2.5. The importance of this cannot be overstated.
2) The global life expectancy is now 70!
3) In 1800, nearly 90% of the population was illiterate. Today, over 85% of the people in the world can read in their native language and an incredible number are literate in more than one language.
4) The number of people in extreme poverty (less than $1 per day) has been halved since 1980-- 2 billion to 1 billion.
5) The internet has made knowledge universal. Really, again, no way to overstate the importance of this.

So when you grouches bemoan the "evils of globalization," remember that there have been a lot of benefits, too.

wars between the great powers are almost non-existant, and not really foreseeable.

also why this period has been called "the great peace." the world is actually very boring today, despite what cable news and your grandma claim.

6) Updated Sherdog forum is working well and the rabble about it has ceased.

Yeah, if you live in the right area of the world and have decent parents there is really no better time to be alive in history. Just to add to the list we are continuing relative world peace as well (I know it's bad in Syria and other places). Overall the planet is probably as peaceful as it's ever been.

All good news but that doesn't mean things can't be done without countries given up their sovereignty.

And there is plenty of things we can still work on.

But good news and steps in the right direction.

The people of the United States decided to Make America Great Again and elected to Donald Trump as President and say a big FU to the Globalists.

Looking back at President Obama’s legacy, the Council on Foreign Relation’s Micah Zenko added up the defense department’s data on airstrikes and made a startling revelation: in 2016 alone, the Obama administration dropped at least 26,171 bombs. This means that every day last year, the US military blasted combatants or civilians overseas with 72 bombs; that’s three bombs every hour, 24 hours a day.

I'm still excited to have been alive during the era of space telescopes, exploration, and the discovery of the Higgs as well as the confirmation of the Standard Model to such a high degree of certainty.

wars between powers and weak countries are common.

major wars we've been spared from since ww2, though. hence, the great peace.

Which has been true for 80 years and a testament to nuclear weapons, not globalization.

Oh, also, does anyone remember when the choices were Bud, Coors, Miller or import?

There are sooooooo many good craft beers now. CT has like a dozen great microbreweries.

Craft Beer Revolution, bitches.
