We used to be in constant hope of a 'superfight' between two champs. Anderson Vs GSP is a prime example of this.

Now it seems like every champ is ready to try for 2 belts as soon as they win one. I find myself being less and less interested in that and just want to see these guys defend their own belts. Long time reigning champs fighting each other is what the fans really want, I think. It should be a special/rare thing.

things have changed indeed. all about platinum now!

Things sure have changed.

Once upon a time there was a Once Ever athlete who could beat men... :(

People think if they win a belt and then call out the champ of the Division above that it qualifies as a SuperFight.

The Term SuperFight has been Lost, so has the Term UFC Vet, seems any guy who has had a UFC fight then leaves is somehow a UFC Vet.

I'd love to see Woodley and Bisping vs Rothwell handicap match
Book it Vince*cough*, i mean Dana

You are a UFC vet if you fight there. It used to mean something to say that. TUF killed that over a decade ago.

Miocic vs DC at HW

Don't tell me that's not a superfight :)

DJ has cleaned out his division. DC and Miocic still have business in their respective divisions to take care of.

I agree with @Official. Superfights should be reserved for long reigning champs who have proven themselves repeatedly by defending their titles. That is what makes them "super".

Welcome to the Money Fights Era where guys who couldn't draw flies if they were made of shit are demanding title shots in divisions up and more money than they're worth.

FW - Garbrandt - No Title Defenses
FW - McGregor - No Title Defenses (Current Interim Champ has been awarded)
LW - McGregor - No Title Defenses (Planned Interim Title Fight happeneing)
WW - Woodley - No Tittle Defenses
MW - Bisping - 1 Title Defense (Against a guy that wasn't even in the Top 10)
LHW - Cormier - 2 Title Defenses
HW - Stipe - 1 Title Defense

Other than Mighty Mouse, not 1 single champ should be talking about "Superfights".

To be fair, it has only happened once in the last eight years or something. The last champ vs champ superfight before McGregor/Alvarez was Penn/GSP in 2009. Let's not pretend like this is happening every week.

To me its all about the match ups between the best fighters. Why is so many people married to this locked in system/meritocracy? As long as the best is fighting the best its all good for my taste.

Question: Lets say Tony and Khabib both moved up a weight class, you would not be interested in seeing them match up against McGregor? You would rather see McGreoger fight Eddie again because hes "next in line" in terms of the rankings?

Have to disagree

LHW and HW are pretty shallow.

DC has only Jones left to fight but Jones is suspended so there's that.

Miocic has only JDS left... and Cain but Cain is injured.

Both of them have defended their titles.

DC is undefeated at HW !!!!! This is the selling point.

It's not the best superfight out there but it's pretty fucking super if you ask me.

Cogar vs TJ is the closest we are getting to Anderson vs GSP

Rumble has earned another crack at DC. He is coming off of 3 consecutive KO wins.

You are correct about Stipe. He needs to face JDS again but the rest of the division really needs to sort itself out to determine another clear cut #1 contender.

I think that's a fair argument, and it's hard to disagree.

I guess I just really like dominant champions and it sucks that we don't have any anymore. I know the belt system is a little silly, but I like it dammit.

Mighty Mousey and Joanna Champ?

Too many think a fighter's "era" is entirely about when they are on a winning run but sometimes you change the game and still take losses, still get exposed and still have to grow as a mixed martial artist.

What Conor did is just a magnified version, with him even taking a humbling loss along the way, but it didn't change the fact that we were in the McGregor era right up until his unexpected maternity leave.

There can be multiple eras all going at once IMO and even in the same weight class.

soon we will be entering the Platinum Era (by the definition too often used) yet I feel we are there already.

i cant blame guys for wanting the fight that gets em the most ppv $
