10 years ago a very historical moment happened that changed MMA forever. Zuffa purchased Pride which completely changed the MMA landscape and made the UFC the number 1 premier organization in the world. How many of you sherdoggers were around in 2007 when this happened? Did Sherdog crash? Were you surprised by it? Were you happy to finally see all the best fighters under one org? I wish I was around here when it happened. It was a very historical moment for MMA. At that point the UFC obtained the best fighters in the world except for one Fedor.

it was a shit show lol. Rumors where percolating for a while before it happened, but of course there was the typical sherdog "Not happening bro" nonsense.

3/4ths of the board mourned, while 1/4th celebrated its death. Pretty much everybody took consolation in the idea that we'd get to see long-awaited 'superfights'.

I was always a UFC fan more than a PrideFC. When Zuffa bought PrideFC, I was hyped. I can finally see some dream match ups. Wanderlei vs Liddell was the one at the top of my list. I was watching live when Wanderlei wanted to "fuck Chuck, fight Chuck".

Some of my dream matches never came through, though. I thought Fedor was coming in and was going to shake up the HW division.

I think I got banned for rubbing it in too much. Was worth it seeing the Pride hugger tears though.

Some were happy, some weren't. A lot of this when some of the Pride fights didn't do as well as expected.

I didn't follow the backstage UFC politics/shenanigans much back then, so was STOKED at the thought of champ vs champ fights, superfights etc. I dug the thought that PRIDE was going to continue as somewhat it's own thing and I don't think I was alone. Sad, naive times.

i stopped watching most mma for a while lol (still watched bj, chuck, and a few other fighters religiously)

pride rules >>>>>>>> unified lnp wall&stall point fighting (oh he was just resetting) system

i was very upset, its not like people stopped liking it.

We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, "Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."

I suppose we all thought that one way or another.

Devastating. and strikeforce being bought out was devastating as well. I feel like a big piece of mma died when Pride went out. American mma rules are so watered down. The UFC org was always the 2nd rate org that'd youd definitely watch but pride was the real show.

Good to hear from a 2001 join date. Think that is the oldest I've seen on here.

I dunno i didn't start watching MMA until I joined sherdog on the exact date I joined.

I honestly don't even know what mma stands for

There used to be an old thread that perfectly encapsulated the mass denial sherdog had when pride was going under, but the link is dead now . GOAT thread it was....

http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/pride-not-any-financial-trouble-what-their-planning.425448/

It was an EPIC post by either JKS or BrasilWand, claiming they had family members who had inside info on the inner workings of FEG and Pride not only was not shutting down its operations but they were instead planning a big surprise show.

The whole thread quickly became a meeting place for pride fans who couldn't come to terms with what was happening and became a source of mockery for years to come to the rest of us....

Will do anything if someone can find some screen shots of the OP at least...

Such a sad day. Killed my passion for training mma. Focused everything on muay thai after that. Why even bother training mma if u cant ever fight in pride... It was the end of the golden age of mma. Getting sad thinking about it

A lot of them weren't in their prime by the time they signed with the UFC.

Most of us assumed they were all pretty much still in their prime. Crocop had just had the crowning achievement of his entire career. People were terrified of Shogun. Rampage was still fighting at the highest levels (although he came a tad sooner via WFA), Hendo didn't decline until years later, Wand lost to Hendo but we all still thought he was near the top of his game. Id say the only ones who were clearly past their prime were Big Nog, Heath Herring, Nakamura, Gomi (although he came later he was still a PRIDE guy), Gono, and we THOUGHT Hunt was past his prime. It wasn't until after they came to the UFC that many of them fell off.
