UFC Executive Joe Carr Leaves Promotion, Accepts Position with World Surf League

Joe Carr, formerly the UFC’s senior executive of content and international, is leaving the promotion to accept a position with the World Surf League.

The WSL on Tuesday announced the hiring of Carr as its chief strategy officer and head of international. According to a release, he “will be responsible for overseeing the League's strategy, corporate development, and the execution of international operations, sales, events, and athlete development.”

"As a lifelong sports fan, I've had the opportunity to witness the WSL's impressive growth over the last few years," Carr said in a release. "It felt like the perfect time to join the organization and help it further alter the landscape of sport through continued digital innovation and a commitment to its athletes. Few sports have such a global and passionate fan base and a lifestyle component that extends far beyond competition. I am looking forward to driving the League's expansion efforts and making the WSL a globally-recognized brand."

MMAFighting.com first reported Carr’s departure from the UFC last week. During his tenure with the Las Vegas-based promotion, Carr helped develop the UFC’s international expansion strategy and also oversaw the growth of UFC Fight Pass, the promotion’s online streaming platform. Prior to that, the Boston native joined the UFC in 2012 as its senior director of investment and strategy.
