Daniel Sturridge Makes Shock Return to Training

Despite fears he would be out for the rest of the season, the Liverpool striker was back in training today.

On Monday, word out of Melwood was that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge was almost certain to miss the final month of the 2016-17 season following the reoccurrence of a hip injury that has been a problem for the England international for much of the past three months.

Today, unexpectedly, Sturridge was back training with his teammates. Though he didn't take on a full session, he did involve himself in a number of lower impact sessions with teammates including Adam Lallana, who is himself returning from injury and targeting a return in time for Monday's match against Watford.

However, despite photographs revealing Sturridge's involvement today, The Liverpool Echo insist that the striker is not considered in contention for the upcoming match. However, there now does appear at least the chance of Sturridge being involved again this season.

Previously, it had seemed all but certain Sturridge would end up seeing out the final days of his Liverpool career on the injured list, with it widely expected that the England international will be moving on in the summer in search of a club that can offer him a starting role.

In other injury news, Lallana is still on track to play a role on Monday though Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson remains absent. Roberto Firmino's involvement in training today was, like Sturridge and Lallana's, limited after the attacker picked up a slight knock but he is expected to be fit to start.
