The Bayern Munich shot-stopper injured himself while training in September and is not expected to play before the new year.

However, the German seems to be enjoying some more free time as he shared a picture of himself perched on a park bench.

The keeper shared the snap with his 8.1 million Instagram followers as he donned a boot on his injured foot.

He appears to be taking a break from an autumnal walk (on crutches, of course) which bodes well for his recovery.

Writing on Instagram, he said: '#autumn'.

Despite not expected to have Neuer available until 2018, Munich were buoyed with successful foot surgery on their No 1's hairline metatarsal fracture.

Much has changed since Neuer last played for the German giants with Jupp Heynckes replacing Carlo Ancelotti, after the Italian was dismissed in September.

The return of Heynckes has seen an improvement in Munich's performances and they currently sit second in the Bundesliga, behind table-toppers Borussia Dortmund on goal difference.

Keepers Sven Ulreich and his back-up Christian Fruchtl have stepped up in Neuer's absence with veteran Tom Starke being recalled for the side's Champions League squad.
