Liverpool sent scouts to watch Benfica winger Nuno Santos in action

Liverpool sent scouts to watch Benfica youngster Nuno Santos play in the UEFA Youth League, according to reports in Portugal.

Santos scored twice playing in the No 10 role as Benfica's youth side beat CSKA Moscow 5-1 earlier this summer.

And according to Portuguese outlet Record, Liverpool scouts were in attendance to watch the 18-year-old in action as they keep tabs on his progress.

Santos has yet to make his first team debut for Benfica but is a regular for the club's reserve side who play in the second tier of Portuguese football.


He followed up his brace against CSKA in the UEFA Youth League by scoring the opening goal in 2-2 draw against Manchester United. 

Benfica have sold a number of players to the Premier League in recent seasons and last summer saw goalkeeper Ederson and centre back Victor Lindelof leave for Manchester City and Man United respectively.

The Portuguese giants were beaten 1-0 by United in the Champions League on Wednesday night with 18-year-old goalkeeper Mile Svilar's mistake proving costly as he carried Marcus Rashford's effort over the line. 

Liverpool meanwhile thrashed Slovenian side Maribor 7-0 on Tuesday to record the club's biggest ever European away win. 

Jurgen Klopp's men travel to Wembley to face Tottenham on Sunday looking for their first Premier League victory in three matches.
