  • Andre Schurrle will miss the start of the season after suffering a thigh injury
  • Schurrle also likely to miss Germany's World Cup qualfiiers next month

  • The Spanish club have agreed a deal worth £90m for the France international

Borussia Dortmund winger Andre Schurrle will miss the start of the Bundesliga season later this week after being ruled out for around a month with a thigh muscle injury, the German club said on Wednesday.

The 2014 World Cup winner has just returned from another injury layoff and played an hour after starting in Dortmund's German Cup first round match against Rielasingen-Arlen on Saturday.

'He will have to take a break for about four weeks,' the club said in a statement.

It was not clear when the player was injured but he is also likely to be ruled out of selection for Germany's 2018 World Cup qualifiers against the Czech Republic in Prague on September 1 and Norway in Stuttgart on September 4.

The situation for manager Peter Bosz could be made all the more difficult should he lose another winger, Ousmane Dembele, to Barcelona in the coming days.

A stunning deal worth £90million has been agreed between the two clubs although the German outfit are demanding a further £30m in performance-related bonuses.

While it would significantly boost Dortmund's coffers, Dembele's departure, coupled with Schurlle's injury, would leave him short at the start of the season.

Dortmund, who finished third in the Bundesliga last season, have qualified for the Champions League group stage and open their domestic league campaign at VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday.

Striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has also been linked with a move away from the club.
