Crystal Palace are set to announce the appointment of Frank de Boer as their new manager.

The former Ajax and Inter Milan boss is on the cusp of being named as Sam Allardyce's replacement on Monday morning, becoming their first ever permanent foreign manager in the process.

Palace built up the announcement - which will take place around a press conference at 2pm - in an interesting way, posting a video on their social media accounts of white smoke billowing out of The Original Tasty Jerk takeaway.

WHY THE WHITE SMOKE AND THE TASTY JERK SHOP?

The white smoke is in reference to the manner in which the Papal conclave announce the appointment of a new Pope.

The Original Tasty Jerk LTD is a Caribbean takeaway near Selhurst Park.

It is famed for the smokestack on top of the restaurant, which means the smell of the meat being cooked inside can be noticed around the area.

It was a nod to the way in which the Vatican confirms the appointment of a new Pope, with Palace using an eatery near their Selhurst Park stadium as they were on the verge of confirming De Boer would be taking the hot seat.

His brother Ronald explained Frank's enthusiasm for the new role in an interview at the weekend: 'Frank is very excited, of course.

'It's the biggest league – everybody knows it, everybody's watching the Premier League.

'You can do really something if you have the chance, because there is money involved and you can buy players.

'It's an interesting league to see what you're capable of as a manager.

'I know they are talking and I think it's just about little terms with the coaching staff.

'I don't see any problem, but of course it's not for me to say if it's a done deal or not.'

De Boer spent six years at Ajax, leading them to their first title in six years during his debut campaign as a manager back in 2010.

He then won the league in each of the following three seasons before leaving in the summer of 2016.

The former Barcelona player was then appointed Inter Milan manager. He only lasted until November 1, with Inter 12th in Serie A and his side bottom of their group in the Europa League.

De Boer, 47, was one of several candidates to be shortlisted, with the likes of Marco Silva, Christophe Galtier, Mauricio Pellegrino and Burnley boss Sean Dyche all initially linked with the position.
