Wayne Rooney's footballing future may be unclear, but the Manchester United striker appears more than happy to be enjoying the present in Ibiza this week.

The England captain headed to the Blue Marlin Beach Club with his wife Coleen on Sunday, to soak up the rays and enjoy a beer or two among friends.

Rooney was pictured swigging on a bottle of lager at the side of the pool, before whipping off his t-shirt to jump in the water and cool off.

Rooney was joined by fellow professionals Darron Gibson and Wes Brown, with all three having played together at Manchester United in years gone by.

The ex-Old Trafford pair - now of Sunderland and Blackburn respectively - are also enjoying their summer breaks before heading back for pre-season in July.

Rooney was happy to stop and take pictures with fans at the beach club, as he wore sunglasses, a backwards cap and a plain black t-shirt.

The Manchester United legend will soon head back to the UK, where his agent Paul Stretford is on the hunt for a new club this summer.

He has been linked with a move to both America and China with his United career seemingly over, and former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is of the belief that Rooney would love life in the mega-money Chinese Super League.

'I haven't spoken to Rooney for a long time, so I don't know what he is thinking, but if he went to China I think he would have a positive experience,' Eriksson insisted.

'He has a young family but there are international schools in the big cities and I know for sure he would have every help possible to make him settle. He would be made very welcome.

'The only problem you have is the language. But if you live in Shanghai or Beijing you have a lot of foreign people, so it is less of an issue. I bumped into many Swedish people in Shanghai and many Europeans live there, working for big companies.

'And, don't forget, the players get treated well. They have everything they need and are very well looked after, so for someone like Rooney or Diego Costa that would not be a problem.'
