Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale set to be rewarded for his impressive season with a contract extension at the Premier League-bound club

Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale is expected to sign a contract extension at the end of this season after proving pivotal in their Premier League promotion push.

Chelsea were linked with Stockdale in January as they searched for a new No 2, while signing a shot-stopper in the summer is on West Ham's to-do list.

The 31-year-old was this month named in the Championship's Team of the Year and has been instrumental for Brighton.

Chris Hughton's side have conceded the fewest goals in the Championship this season and are now aiming to clinch the title ahead of Newcastle.

Stockdale, whose current £15,000-a-week contract is close to expiring, spent six years at Fulham.

He appeared 39 times in the Premier League for the west London club and was sent out on several loans.

The Leeds-born goalkeeper was also called up to the England squad under Fabio Capello but never got a cap.
