Manchester City concede too many goals... they might not finish in the top four, believes Thierry Henry

Thierry Henry has blasted Manchester City's leaky defence - warning them that they will miss out on a top-four place if things don't improve soon.

Goals from Romelu Lukaku, Kevin Mirallas, Tom Davies and Ademola Lookman saw City thumped 4-0 at Everton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

That defeat leaves Pep Guardiola's side 10 points adrift of table-toppers Chelsea and two from Arsenal who sit fourth - one place above City.

Pep Guardiola's side now trail leaders Chelsea by 10 points in the Premier League title race

Guardiola's side have only kept four clean sheets in the league so far this season and Henry believes it's imperative for them to improve in this area if they are to have any hope of finishing in the top four this season, let alone win the title.

'They concede too many goals, I've said it so many times,' he said post-match as a pundit for Sky Sports.

'If you want to be champion you cannot be that open like that, especially when you lose the ball.

'Every time they lost the ball and Everton went on the counter, Zabaleta and Yaya looked like they couldn't follow the guy, especially on Davies' goal.

'There is something that is happening at Manchester City at the minute that they need to sort out because it looks like they might not finish in the top four.'

Henry's sentiments were echoed by fellow pundit Graeme Souness who also cited a lack of energy in their central midfield with veterans Toure and Zabaleta starting on Merseyside.

'They’ve got great forward players but there’s something missing,' he said.

'When you look at the centre of midfield, Zabaleta - 32, Yaya Toure – close to 34 years old – that’s your engine room. You’ve got to have piles and piles of enthusiasm and energy in there. They didn’t have it.'
