Man United signed Wayne Rooney on deadline day in August 2004

Four mega Premier League deals that would not have happened if deadline day came before the season kicked off

Changes to the transfer window could see it close before the season begins if new rules are approved.

As with many other European leagues, the window currently closes on 31 August, a few weeks after the first game of the campaign.

However, representatives from the 20 top-flight clubs will attend next month’s shareholders’ meeting with a majority believed to be in favour of a new deadline which would prevent managers signing players once a season begins.

Clubs have previously concluded a lot of business at the end of the transfer window and here, talkSPORT.com looks at four major deals, beginning with Wayne Rooney's £27million move from Everton to Man United.
