‘Raw and quick’ Davinson Sanchez would be a hit in the Premier League – Tim Vickery impressed by Tottenham transfer target

Tottenham transfer target Davinson Sanchez would be a perfect fit for Mauricio Pochettino’s style of play, according to South American football expert Tim Vickery.

Reports in the Netherlands have suggested the north London club have offered £36million in an attempt to lure the Colombian international to the Premier League.

Ajax have rejected the bid and are said to be holding out for a fee closer to £45million before allowing the 21-year-old to leave the Eredivisie outfit.

But despite the impasse in negotations, Vickery expects the Colombian to thrive in the Premier League should Tottenham convince Ajax to sell.

“He’s a lanky Colombian centre-back - very promising - and I think he could work,” Vickery told Max Rushden and Barry Glendenning.

“He’s a little bit raw. Less than two years ago, he wasn’t even a first team player in Colombia. He got into the team with Atletico Nacional Medellin at the start of last year.

“He was very successful, he won the Copa Libertadores and then went to Ajax and had a good season.

“What I really like about him is that he’s quick.

“He can play in a high-line. A lot of South American centre-backs are on the slow side and this is one of the things that makes it difficult for them when they come over.

“But Sanchez is quick, he’s good in the air - he could be better in the air with his size - he could be a little more commanding.

“Assuming that he comes, he’s got two other ex-Ajax centre-backs in Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen to help bed him in.

“And with that pace, you can imagine him fitting into Mauricio Pochettino’s high-line and high-press [tactics]."

Chelsea and Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest in Sanchez and could yet step in for the player if Tottenham fail to meet Ajax’s demands.
