‘I couldn’t work out why Arsenal’s players weren’t all chasing the ball!’ – Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale takes our Starting XI Q&A

Each week, leading musicians take our Starting XI Q&A. And here we go with Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. He's an Arsenal fan...

You’re on a desert island and can have one album with you and one item of football memorabilia - what do you take?
Rihanna’s ‘Anti’. For me it is the most complete record of the last year, I love every song. I’d take a football and a pump. Who needs the FA Cup when you're alone on an island?

Number one song or your club top of the league?
I’d take the number one song please.

Which football manager do you think would make the best music artist?
Jose Mourinho. He has all the attitude, swagger and mystery.

Would you rather record a Bond theme or the World Cup’s official song?
Probably the Bond theme. Who remembers any World Cup Official songs? I don’t, but I know my Bond songs.

Which footballer would you record a song with?
Toni Duggan from Man  City. Did you see that goal ? And she looks cool. (If you didn't, check it out below)

What was the first single you bought?
'Can’t Stand Losing You' by The Police. And the record was blue... like real police uniforms.

And what was the first football match you went to?
Arsenal when I was a bairn. I mainly remember being shocked that not everyone was chasing the ball like at my school!

Who is your music idol?
Bob Marley. The king of kings. The lord of lords. The voice of voices.

And who’s your all-time favourite footballer?
Eric Cantona. 'Nuff said.

You’re in charge of your club’s match day music: what song is a must-have on the stadium playlist?
'99 Problems' by Jay-Z, so we can get focused and pumped. Let’s make this happen.

What’s the greatest moment you’ve experienced as a football fan?
Watching the World Cup with friends. Food, drink and the sunshine of hope. Never lasts long, though...

If your club could sign any player in the world TODAY, who would you want that to be? (Please be realistic!!)
Lionel Messi. No other way around it. The greatest asset to any team.

Currently lighting up our TV screens every Saturday night as a coach on The Voice UK, Gavin Rossdale also releases BUSH’s seventh studio album BLACK AND WHITE RAINBOWS which is out now.
