European Golden Shoe 2017: Leading goal scorers in Europe revealed, including Messi, Sanchez and Higuain

Luis Suarez won it last season thanks to his 40 goals, but he has some ground to make up if he wants the European Golden Shoe again.

Here, talkSPORT looks at the current frontrunners.

The award is judged on a points system, with goals scored in Europe's top leagues such as England, Germany and Spain multiplied by 2.0, with others having strikes factored by 1.5 or 1.0.

And yes, we realise the prize is clearly a football boot and not a shoe.

Last five winners:
2016: Luis Suarez
2015: Cristiano Ronaldo
2014: Cristiano Ronaldo
2013: Lionel Messi
2012: Lionel Messi
