The Earth Defense Force franchise is about killing tons of giant bugs, and the Starship Troopers series features pretty much the same concept, so it was just a matter of time.

D3 Publisher released a trailer announcing a collaboration between the recently-released Earth Defense Force 5 and the CGI movie Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars that is currently being screened on Japanese silver screens.

The trailer sees the appearance of iconic character Johnny Rico, and features a lot of bug killing and shooting (I suggest listening with your volume down), but doesn't actually explain what the collaboration will entail, so looks like we'll have to wait for that.

On the other hand, it confirms that the game shipped 300,000 copies since its release on December 7th, 2017. This includes physical shipments and digital sales.

Funnily, the trailer even features the mansion from Happy Manager as a little Easter egg.

At the moment, D3Publisher has not made any announcements regarding a possible western release of Earth Defense Force 5, but Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair eventually came west, so there is certainly still hope.
