Microsoft has super-glued a release date to Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, confirming the re-release of the 1997 command-’em-up will hit PC on February 20. The game was previously set to launch on October 19 last year to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the original game.

The Definitive Edition of the title will benefit from a jaw-dropping 4K resolution makeover, as well as throwing in multiplayer support through Xbox Live and local LAN. In addition, it also adds a new orchestral score and narration for each campaign mission.

Meanwhile, creative players can also concoct their own special campaigns using Age of Empire: The Definitive Edition’s scenario editor, which can then be shared with other players on the game’s official website.

If that wasn’t enough, the revamp of the real-time strategy behemoth incorporates a fresh UI, the ability to attack-move, group control, an idle villagers option, and enhanced destruction among other extras.

The Age of Empires: Definitive Edition beta will kick off on January 29, with sign ups open until January 25. Developer Forgotten Empires has revealed that an additional 100,000 players will be added to the teaser, so you may yet get a chance to get in on the action.
