After Ubisoft finally announced Beyond Good and Evil 2 at E3, a sequel to 2003’s Beyond Good and Evil which no one was entirely sure was ever going to happen, we’ve now got a first look at the game in action.

Michel Ancel calls the video a mix between a technical demo of the engine they’ve developed, which they call Voyager, and some of the gameplay elements for Beyond Good And Evil 2. It’s looking super ambitious.

In the video Ancel goes through the ‘nesting doll’ idea of a crew within a spaceship, within another spaceship, the flying mechanics for spaceships (including drifting) and a seamless planet-to-space flight. The idea is that you should be able to go anywhere in the massive game universe without loading screens.

‘That was one of the big features we wanted to make sure we had before showing the game to the public, to everybody,’ says Ancel. ‘We wanted to make sure that the technology was working and this big amibitous game was feasible.’

This kind of feels like a low key reference to another, high profile, ambitious space game. It’ll be interesting to see more of Beyond Good and Evil 2 as the months (and probably years, let’s face it) go on.
